Cotto vs. Pacquiao: and the Winner Is!!!

Who would expect that a smaller guy, who was once a skinny fighter at flyweight, would fight a much bigger man in the welterweight division? Inconceivable, unimaginable isn’t it? Especially if the bigger man is not an ordinary fighter but a true champion who has been bullying opponents in the ring. This happens only in the movies and in the bible too.

But not now, the once believed to be an inconceivable, unimaginable, and almost impossible fight will happen on November 14, 2009 in Las Vegas, Nevada. The smaller man, who happens to be the King (Pound for Pound) of boxing, His Majesty Manny Pacquiao, who is comfortable fighting at the weight of 140 pounds, will fight the bigger man, who happens to be the Ruler of the Welterweight Division, His Highness Miguel Cotto who is comfortable fighting at 147 pounds.

How to level the playing field?: Since the weight discrepancy is too much, experts figure out a way of making the fight even by adjusting the weight limit. They just let the bigger man go down his weight a little and the smaller man go up a little. From 147, His Highness Miguel Cotto will move down by two (2) pounds and His Majesty Manny Pacquiao will move up by five (5) pounds. They will meet at 145 pounds. Perfect match according to the experts.

What are at stake?: Aside from a big payday, both fighters are aiming for “the throne and the crown”. The Throne of Manny Pacquiao as the Pound for Pound King and the Crown of Miguel Cotto as the Welterweight Division Champion of the World. Wow, what a fight. Anybody who wins the fight will be regarded as the Pound for Pound King of Boxing and the Ruler of Welterweight Division. For both fighters, this is a chance of a lifetime to prove their worth to the world. Who will not be enticed by these rewards. Even if this fight will be classified as non-title bout, for all intents and purposes, anybody who wins (especially if by total domination) will be regarded as the Pound for Pound King and the Welterweight Division Champ.

How will the fighters prepare? : Well, both fighters will make sure that they are physically, mentally and spiritually in top shape during this occasion. How to do this would depend on how their coaches and trainers would use their wits and creativity in analyzing previous fights, present condition of both fighters and possible scenarios during the fight to formulate their own game plans. Who outwits who will have an advantage in this fight.

Who do you think will win in this fight? Is it Pacquiao or Cotto? and why? : I am going to toss this question to the following:

  • To the fans of both fighters, the question is “Why do you think your idol, either Cotto or Pacquiao, will win in this fight?
  • To those who are not fans of both fighters, the question is “Who do you think will win in this fight and why?”

Please cast your votes on the poll space below.

Let the fight begins.

Pacquiao will win via a third round knockout of Cotto. Cotto will go down three times once on each round. On the third round, he will be down for good.

I like the way you "package" both Pacquiao and Cotto. but, i believe pacquiao will win. He studies his opponent's strengths and weaknesses to the littlest detail then fashions a game plan to demolish him.

Its funny to read this comments from people who say that cotto has never seen speed like pacquiao...Really ? r u serious...

So Judah doesn't have speed, ricardo torres doesnt have speed, paulie Malignaggi doesn't have speed, oh and what about shane mosley ????

Speed have always been nulliefied with timing.

Timing which cotto has and has shown in all his fights against speedy fighters.

Cotto has also proven to have pretty fast hand speed in those bouts.

The question in this fight is. how will pacquiao chin hold up and a straight right hand or left hook from cotto...

how will manny's body hold up againast cotto's devastating left hook to the body.

Lets be honest, pacquiao hasn't fought anyone close to pacquiao abilities, skills and power in recent years.

Sure his fight with de la hoya was at 140 something..but de la hoya was not the great fight he once was....not only that but freddie roch even commented that de la hoya was very drained on fight nite , which why he was able to predict early 3 round knock out.

I see this as a great, true boxing fan fight where both boxers with have at it but at the end one will emerge victorious.

One thing to keep in mind before i leave is ..who will be the judges...i have a weird feeling is this fight would to go to a decision that it would e given to pacquiao....

why you ask because of the possible mega fight between pacman and mayweather...

lets face it..boxing nowadays is about pay days(money) and having a fight between mayweather and pacquiao would be bring lots of money, PPV buys and hype to the fight... which is something that High Rank People in Boxing would want.

As for my prediction...

If manny were to win this fight it would be in the early rounds before round 5 with a flurry of punches putting cotto out of his game and catching cotto in an exchange....

If cotto were to win which is what i beleive , will occur in the middle round where the heavy body shots and couters will take affect and manny will realize that Cotto is not the fighter he thought he was...instead a powerful smart boxer with skills...

Good night everyone peace !!!!

I love both fighters and you can't give me a better fight than this but Miguel Cotto will win a decision due to more power punches. Manny is fast but his punches aren't as powerful as the hands of Cotto. Size will not be a factor in this match...it will be determined by power punches and there will also not be a knockout. This will be a close decision in Cotto's favor.
Cotto has handled serious fighters with ease. His only loss was at the hands of Margarito who had hands full of plaster in that fight.
